Provenance:
Present: Ryan Snooks collection of Japanese & Asian Decorative Art
Previous: Private Collection
Collected: Seller from France, 8 APR 2015
Condition: Item is used in good condition commensurate with age, see photos. Some pits and small bits of missing enamel (possibly original to manufacture). Some light surface wear.
Subject: With designs of shippo (interlocking circles; coincidentally also the name for cloisonne in Japanese), unusual designs of western Roman characters / letters (Romanji; I see O, S, J, G, U, I, R, C, Q, L, B, and some other shapes), and designs resembling Japanese mon (family crests; one looks like the Mitsubishi logo), on a light red / pink background. The western writing was probably added because it seemed exotic to people in Japan. With a metal ring (possibly silver) for the himotoshi (cord hole)
