Type: Vase with Raised Relief Sculpted Dragon
Material: Ceramic Pottery
Age: Meiji Period (1868 - 1912)
Origin/Maker: Satsuma ware from Kagoshima, Japan. Marked on base with 大日山玉仙 by Gyokusen (玉仙). Base and top of vase decorated with Shimazu mon (circle with cross), a symbol of the Satsuma clan from Kyushu island. Paper label on base "V13379", possibly a catalogue number from a collector or museum collection.
Size: 9 1/2" tall (24.13 cm)

Collected: Summer 2020
Condition: Item is used in good condition commensurate with age, see photos. Possibly some minor damage to the dragon's head (the ends of whiskers or horns might be missing). Some light wear to painted design.
Subject: Decorated with designs of sages, rakan, arhats, bodhisattva (such as Kannon), with temples and autumn foliage in the background, and a sculpted dragon around the top. Lots of gold decoration.
