Type: Incense Burner (Koro)

Age: Meiji Period (1868 - 1912)
Origin/Maker: Based on red seal mark (a stylized 乾), attributed to Urano Kenya 浦野乾哉 (Ogata Kenzan VI). In addition, has two impressed marks on base; one is 京 (Kyo), likely a reference to the Kyoto style, the other appears to be something like 常山 (Tsunezan?). Urano Kenya 浦野乾哉 (Urano Shigekichi)
Late Edo period-1923
Lived in Imado, Asakusa. Studied pottery under Miura Kenya. Exhibited at the Paris World Exposition in 1900, after which he moved to Iriya where he was adopted by Ogata Keisuke, descendant of Ogata Kenzan. Later became the sixth generation Ogata Kenzan (Ogata Kenzan VI). Coincidentally, his teacher, Miura Kenya, was sometimes also referred to as Ogata Kenzan VI. Among his apprentices are such masters such as Bernard Leach (supposedly he claimed the title of Ogata Kenzan VII), Tomimoto Kenkichi (supposedly also claimed the title of Ogata Kenzan VII), Uchijima Hokuro, and others.
