Condition: Fair condition commensurate with age, see photos. With several vertical age cracks on the himotoshi side of the testicles. Surface wear. Netsuke has a waxy feel, the previous owner Jury Kolodotschko apparently had a tendency to coat their netsuke with camellia oil.
Subject: An amusing netsuke of a tanuki (raccoon dog yokai) with an elongated scrotum more than twice its size, signed to one side of the scrotum. Tanuki were considered the most skillful shapeshifters of Japanese magical animals (ahead of foxes (kitsune) and cats (neko)) and were famous for their large balls.
