Origin/Maker: Ikuta Kazutaka (1927-1982), Tamba (Tanba) ware, Tottori Pref. Per paper, this bowl was part of a 1970 Mingei Exhibition representing Tamba.
"Ceramic artist. Born in Nakahojo Village, Tohaku District, Tottori Prefecture (currently Hokuei Town). In 1947, he was introduced to the potter Kanjiro Kawai by Mikio Horio from Tottori Prefecture, and after studying with Takeichi Kawai at Toheigama in Kyoto, he became an apprentice to Kanjiro in 1951. Did. He returned to his home town in 1955 and met Shoya Yoshida, then moved to Tanba to learn Tanba ware techniques at Toshio Ichino's kiln, and became independent in 1960. In addition to candy glaze and iron glaze, his father provided him with rice husk ash, and he used bran glaze, which had not been used in Tamba. He was good at shinogite and chamfering, and created bold and powerful works. In 1975, he exhibited his ``Nuka-glazed Katte Obachi'' at the 3rd Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition and won the Minister of Education Award. He passed away at the age of 55. As a student of Ikuta, he has made great achievements in nurturing some of Tottori's most representative potters, including Kenji Kawamoto, Mitsuo Yamashita, and Kiyoshi Yamashita, and is still a potter loved by the people of his hometown."
