Kinkozan Birds Teapot

Type: Lidded Teapot
Material: Stoneware Ceramic Pottery (not porcelain; Satsuma wares are not made from porcelain).
Age: Late Meiji Period (early 20th Century, early 1900s).
Origin/Maker: Japanese, Kyoto Satsuma (Kyo-Satsuma), marked Kinkozan in red enamel. Kinkozan made Kyo-Satsuma wares in several distinct styles, including this Ko-Kiyomizu inspired Awata Satsuma style. In this style of wares they usually signed in red or gold somewhere on the side of the piece instead of on the bottom. They also made Art Deco and Studio Porcelain inspired pieces, and highly detailed Kagoshima Satsuma styled pieces.

Condition: Item is used in good condition commensurate with age. Some original to manufacture chips on the foot and under where the lid rests. No cracks. Glaze flaw (rough glaze) in one spot on a duck's wing. Surface craquelure, as is normal for Satsuma wares.
Subject: Painted enamel birds (ten (10) total; two appear to be ducks, the rest are maybe Chidori (plovers) or sparrows)) flying among riverside grasses and flowers. Sculpted handles are shaped like bamboo shoots.
