Condition: Item is used in fair condition commensurate with age, see photos. One section of top edge has a large chip that was replaced and repainted as part of the repairs. Some light surface wear.
Subject: Baluster vase form described in "Hirado: Prince of Porcelains" as a flower vase shape unique to the Hirado Mikawachi kilns, with large flaring rim and applied ShiShi (Chinese Guardian Lion, or Komainu) mask handles, painted with cranes, pine trees (both symbols of longevity) and clouds in underglaze sometsuke blue on a snow white Hirado porcelain background. A technically difficult piece to create, due to its top heavy nature during firing
