1927 長野県に生まれる。
1952 25歳 明治大学文学部卒業。
1960 33歳 茨城県笠間市に築窯。この頃より、中国・朝鮮・
日本の古陶磁を研究、写しを制作する。
練上技法を研究し試作する。
1976 40歳 田村耕一に師事する。作陶の技法を練上手に
絞り指導を受ける。
1969 42歳 第16回日本伝統工芸展に初入選。
1971 46歳 第2回日本陶芸展にて最優秀作品賞秩父宮賞杯受賞。
1974 47歳 日本陶磁協会賞受賞。
1975 48歳 第22回日本伝統工芸展にてNHK会長賞受賞。
1986 59歳 第2回藤原 啓記念賞受賞。
1988 61歳 日本工芸会理事就任。紫綬褒章受章。
1990 63歳 日本陶磁協会賞金賞受賞。日本工芸会常任理事就任。
1991 64歳 第4回MOA岡田茂吉大賞受賞。
1993 66歳 重要無形文化財保持者認定。
1994 67歳 茨城県特別功績賞受賞。
1998 71歳 明治大学リバティータワー陶壁画「人間賛歌」完成。
2000 73歳 勲四等旭日小綬章受章。
2003 75歳 死去。従五位を賜る。

▽Artist biography
1927 Born in Nagano Prefecture.
In 1952, he graduated from Meiji University's Faculty of Letters at the age of 25.
1960, 33 years old, built a kiln in Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture. From around this time, China, Korea,
Research on old Japanese ceramics and make copies.
He researches training techniques and creates prototypes.
1976 When he was 40 years old, he began studying under Koichi Tamura. He has mastered the technique of making pottery.
He receives guidance from the squeeze.
1969 Age 42: Selected for the 16th Japanese Traditional Crafts Exhibition for the first time.
1971 At the age of 46, won the Chichibunomiya Prize Cup for the best work at the 2nd Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition.
1974 At the age of 47, won the Japan Ceramic Association Award.
1975 Age 48: Received the NHK Chairman's Award at the 22nd Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition.
1986 Age 59 Received the 2nd Kei Fujiwara Memorial Award.
1988 Age 61: Appointed director of the Japan Crafts Association. He received the Medal with Purple Ribbon.
1990 Age 63 Received the Japan Ceramic Association Gold Award. He became a permanent director of the Japan Crafts Association.
1991, 64 years old, won the 4th MOA Okada Mokichi Award.
1993, 66 years old, certified as a holder of important intangible cultural property.
1994, 67 years old, received Ibaraki Prefecture Special Achievement Award.
1998 At the age of 71, the Meiji University Liberty Tower ceramic mural “Human Hymn” was completed.
2000, 73 years old, received the Order of the Rising Sun, Fourth Class.
Passed away in 2003 at the age of 75. He is given the rank of Junior Fifth Rank.

Born in Asahikawa. Studied under Nakano Akitsugu. Went independent in 1976 while working in a descending smoke French kerosene kiln. Selected for the Kofukai Exhibition and Nisshin Engineering Exhibition. Held solo exhibitions at Kyoto Maronie, Akasaka G Gen, Matsumoto G Paleo, others. Primarily worked with ash and iron glaze.

Discovered pottery in the 4th grade.
​Built a kiln at home in the 6th grade.
Started self-studying pottery.
Received an Encouragement Award at the Sakuranosato Ceramic Art Exhibition in 2007.
Built an anagama kiln in Hokota, Ibaraki Prefecture.
Held his first solo exhibition at Gallery Yokohama Motomachi in 2009, and has since held solo exhibitions in various locations
Held his first solo exhibition at Mitsukoshi Nagoya Sakae store in 2015, and has held exhibitions every year since.
Currently a member of the Kasama Ware Cooperative.

Not only is his style bold, with its patchwork shapes made by tearing off pieces that have already been molded and then pasting them back together, but the beauty of his curved plates and the delicacy of his painted patterns are also eye-catching. He prefers to use Shigaraki white clay and moxa clay, which is rich in iron, and has a strong preference for natural fires such as firewood in his kilns.

Kenichiro Inoue

Kenichiro Inoue bases his work on a dedication to vivid pattern. Boldly painted fish and flowers stand out across the surface of this hand-painted pottery.
A practising potter in Kasama since the early 1980s, Inoue’s work has lost none of its impact. If anything his patterns are becoming more bold, and match his cheerful status in the local ceramics scene. None of this is to belie to quality of his skilfully made ceramics, which have received recognition in Japan and overseas.
