Age: Meiji Period 1868-1912
Origin/Maker: Shofu Katei (1870-1928), marked on base in underglaze blue. Also known as Shofu Kajo, this potter was born in Seto, moving to Kyoto in 1890. Shofu excelled in hard-paste porcelains and was known for his blowout designs in multi-coloured glazes. He is said to have invented several new techniques, including moriage porcelain. His works are generally classified in the same league as those of studio potters Makuzu and Seifu Yohei III.

Condition: Item is used in fair condition commensurate with age, see photos. One hairline crack with no separation or loss of material on back of vase.
