Subject: Seto ware plate by the esteemed Nishiura Enji, in Kutani or Yokohama porcelain style design of a colorful bird perched in a peony (botan) garden, the peony flowers protected from snow by a bamboo covering, with grasses and nandina (sacred bamboo) plants with their red berries sticking through the snow, with the silhoutte of the moon looking on. Possibly some meaning was intended about comparing the structured beauty in a protected garden against the beauty of wild nature, both enduring the cold, snowy night..
